What is the difference between iPhoneBackup and iPhonebook?
The basic functionality of iPhoneBackup is already included
in iPhonebook so iPhonebook users do not need to also subscribe
to iPhoneBackup.
iPhonebook also enables subscribers to look up any contact
that exists in their desktop PIM (e.g. Microsoft Outlook,
Outlook Express, Palm or Lotus Notes). iPhoneBackup does not
include this feature. iPhonebook includes synchronization
software that syncs contacts from the desktop that the mobile
phone can access. iPhoneBackup does not include synchronization
software. iPhoneBackup cannot download contacts into the mobile
phone.
If you are only
concerned about saving and restoring contacts that exist on
the phone already, iPhoneBackup is the right mobile application
for you. If you would like the ability to save, restore, look
up contacts and have contacts downloaded from your desktop
to the mobile phone, than iPhonebook is the right mobile application
for you.

My phone has been lost (stolen, damaged). What do I do?
If you subscribed to iPhoneBackup you can relax. Your contacts
can be restored to you new mobile phone. On your new replacement
handset, download iPhoneBackup. Login using the PIN and mobile
phone number you used on your old handset. Select Restore
Contacts. The contacts that were saved previously in iPhoneBackup
will appear in your address book.
If you did not subscribe to iPhoneBackup and your contacts
are in a desktop PIM such as Microsoft Outloook, you may download
iPhonebook and follow the instructions to download contacts
into your handset's address book. Continue using iPhonebook
or, if you do not need all the functionality of iPhonebook,
you can decide to switch to iPhoneBackup.

Do I need to back up my contacts every time I add, edit or
delete a contact in my address book?
No, you do not need to manually back up your contacts. iPhoneBackup
periodically does this for you. To see the last time your
contacts were backed up, check the main menu of iPhoneBackup.
It will indicate the last time a back up was performed.

Can't I just transfer contacts from my old phone to my new
phone using a cable?
There are cable solutions available. This is an option only
if you are upgrading to a new handset and still own your old
handset. However, most people find one or more of the following
problems. Either a cable does not exist yet -- which is common
for new handset models -- or the cable solution does not transfer
all the information. Many cable solutions will only transfer
one name and one phone number. You may have multiple numbers
for a contact (mobile, home, business, fax).* Email addresses
are also not transferrable on many data cable solutions. Cost
of the data cable solution is also an issue and data cables
are different for each handset type and model. These issues
will exist for you everytime you have a new phone.
And finally,
a data cable solution is not a viable solution if the handset
has been lost, stolen or damaged.
*Phone features vary by manufacturer and model. Some phones
can not support all of iPhoneBackup's features. Check the
supported phone list to if there
are any limitations for your phone.

What happens to the ring tones/speed dialing I've assigned
to my contacts if I use iPhoneBackup to restore contacts?
Any ringtones, speed dialing or anything else assigned to
your contacts will have to be re-applied. iPhoneBackup only
saves the contact information in the address book.
